SAPE Steel is seeking a Tekla Modeler / Detail Design Engineer to support industrial steel projects through 3D modelling, drawing production, detail design, and connection-oriented engineering support. The role includes developing Tekla models, preparing workshop and erection drawings, modelling steel components, reading forces from structural analysis files, and supporting connection design through IDEA StatiCa or manual methods. Base knowledge of RSTAB, SAP2000, and Navisworks is considered an advantage, and candidates who can also support the main structural static design will be strongly valued.

SAPE Steel is seeking a Tekla Modeler / Detail Design Engineer to support the technical development of industrial steel structure projects through 3D modeling, detailed drawing production, practical detail design, and connection-oriented engineering support. The role is intended for candidates who can transform engineering intent into coordinated, fabrication-ready, and erection-ready technical documentation, while maintaining a clear understanding of buildability, connection behavior, component logic, and the practical demands of workshop production and site execution.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining Tekla Structures models for steel structures and related components, and for preparing workshop drawings, erection drawings, general arrangement drawings, assembly drawings, and material-related outputs required for project delivery. The role requires the ability to detail steelwork accurately, organize model and drawing revisions carefully, and produce documentation that can be relied upon by engineers, fabricators, and site teams. Common job descriptions for Tekla detailers emphasize the same core functions: accurate 3D steel modeling, fabrication drawings, material lists, revision handling, and coordination with project stakeholders.
Beyond standard detailing activities, this position also includes support for practical detail design and connection design development. The candidate should be able to model and develop steel components in Tekla Structures, read and interpret internal forces and reactions from structural analysis files, and use those forces as a basis for steel connection design through IDEA StatiCa or manual engineering methods where appropriate. IDEA StatiCa’s own product guidance describes its role as a tool for steel connection design and code checking across many types of steel connections, which aligns directly with the technical expectations of this role.
The role further requires familiarity with Navisworks for model review, coordination, and interface checking, as well as base knowledge of structural analysis platforms such as RSTAB and SAP2000 in support of detail design development and engineering coordination. In addition to detailing, the candidate may also support or carry out the main structural static design of steel structures where capability allows, especially where the role overlaps with engineering development, component design, and connection-related technical decisions. This expectation aligns with SAPE Steel’s internal design process, where structural models are developed in analysis software and nodes are further designed according to regulations using IDEA StatiCa before being integrated into detailed Tekla execution models.
A strong candidate for this role will understand that steel detailing is not limited to drawing extraction. It is a technical responsibility that requires disciplined interpretation of analysis input, careful model development, quality checking of deliverables, practical understanding of fabrication requirements, and the ability to keep model, drawing, and connection information aligned throughout the project lifecycle. Steel detailer role descriptions commonly stress compliance with project specifications, collaboration with engineers and fabricators, drawing quality control, and the preparation of practical production-ready information rather than purely visual drafting.
The position is suited to a technically minded professional who can work accurately under revision cycles, coordinate with engineers and manufacturers, and contribute to industrial steel projects with seriousness, responsibility, and practical engineering understanding. At SAPE Steel, the role sits within a wider technical environment shaped by industrial and energy-sector work, where design, manufacturing support, and execution are expected to function as one coordinated process rather than isolated activities.
Develop accurate 3D steel structure and component models in Tekla Structures.
Prepare workshop drawings, erection drawings, general arrangement drawings, and assembly drawings for fabrication and site use.
Generate material lists, bolt lists, reports, and related outputs from the Tekla model.
Model and detail steel components in a practical and buildable manner suitable for fabrication and erection.
Read and interpret internal forces and reactions from structural analysis files in support of connection design and detailing decisions.
Support or carry out steel connection design using IDEA StatiCa or manual engineering methods based on structural analysis results.
Support component design and practical detail design tasks in coordination with the project’s structural intent.
Use Navisworks and related tools for model review, coordination, and interface checking.
Manage revisions, drawing updates, re-issues, and technical changes in a disciplined manner.
Coordinate with engineers, fabricators, and project teams to resolve technical issues and maintain documentation quality.
Practical experience in Tekla Structures for steel modeling and drawing production.
Good understanding of steel detailing, fabrication-oriented drawings, and erection documentation.
Ability to model steel components and produce technically reliable drawings for project execution.
Ability to read and interpret forces from static or structural analysis files in support of connection detailing and design.
Familiarity with IDEA StatiCa for steel connection design, checking, or support tasks, or the ability to perform manual connection design methods.
Base knowledge of RSTAB, SAP2000, or similar structural analysis software.
Familiarity with Navisworks for coordination and model review.
Strong attention to detail, revision discipline, and practical engineering judgment.
Ability to work professionally with engineers, clients, manufacturers, and internal technical teams.
